Pembrokeshire College WorldSkills Bronze medallist: Ryan Jeramias being presented with his award

PEMBROKESHIRE COLLEGE student, Ryan Jeramias has won the Bronze medal at the recent WorldSkills Bricklaying Final.

Held at Coleg Menai, two Pembrokeshire College Level 3 Advanced Craft (Brickwork) students made it to the final and competed against some of the best students in Wales for the winners’ trophy.

Pembrokeshire College tutor, Peter Rogers congratulated students Ryan Jeramias and Finlay Kirkwood on their performance . He said: “The boys completed their models to an excellent standard and performed exceptionally well on what was a very hot day. They did a great job flying the flag for Pembrokeshire and congratulations to Ryan for a great result, winning a Bronze medal in such difficult conditions!”

The WorldSkills Bricklaying final saw competitors build an 825mm wall from a drawing while incorporating decorative features on both sides. Ryan must now wait to find out if his Bronze medal places him in the top ten in the UK, which would give him a place in the WorldSkills UK Final in November.

Both Ryan and Finlay have completed their trade qualifications at Pembrokeshire College and have found employment; Ryan now works for Almac Construction, Tenby and Finlay will work in Australia, where the demand for brickwork skills is high.

With the construction industry in Wales expected to grow faster than in any other part of the UK, now is the perfect time to learn a trade! Visit pembrokeshire.ac.uk/courses to find out more.

Festive celebrations at St Davids Cathedral this weekend

Published

on

ST DAVIDS Cathedral is set to host two special events on Sunday (Dec 22), offering a blend of joyful participation and traditional carol singing to mark the Christmas season.

In the morning, families are invited to the Scratch Nativity at 11:00am. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as wise men, angels, sheep, or shepherds and take part in an unrehearsed retelling of the Christmas story. Canon Leigh described the event as: “Complete, wonderful chaos for an hour… but with some poignant, thought-provoking moments to centre ourselves on the real meaning of Christmas.”

Later in the evening, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by Candlelight will take place at 7:00pm, featuring the Cathedral Choir. The event, steeped in tradition, will see the cathedral bathed in candlelight as carols and scripture readings fill the historic space.

Doors will open at 5:45pm for those seeking unreserved seating, and a large turnout is expected for this beloved Christmas celebration.
