Soroptimists’ gift to Harriet Davis Trust

Published

sorop1IT HAS been a very busy year for the ladies of Soroptimists International Tenby as they have not only been celebrating their Diamond Jubilee, they have also been raising substantial sums for local charities.

Retiring President, Dr Anne Kelly chose the Harriet Davis Trust as her special charity of the year and the members have helped to raise the magnificent sum of £2000.00 which was presented to fund-raiser Elizabeth Sleight at their jubilee dinner.

‘I have been overwhelmed by the support of Soroptimists International Tenby’ said Elizabeth ‘The ladies have worked so hard this year to help us, with film nights, fashion shows and other events. This very generous donation which will help refurbish our properties so we can provide the best respite holiday homes for disabled children, adults, their families and carers.’

Elizabeth recently took Soroptimists Anne Kelly and Pam Maggs to meet Gregory Mott, from Haverfordwest, who was staying in Giltar View, one of the trust’s houses in Tenby. Greg, now 24, has had many holidays with the Harriet Davis Trust with his family, but this visit was his first holiday in his own right. He was accompanied on his break by support workers Kimberley Bennett and Gareth Jones from Value Independence CIC, a Milford Haven based care agency which promotes self-esteem and confidence building in its client base and encourages independent living.

Value Independence Director Jo Warden said ‘We have been supporting Greg for eight years now and it has been one of his dreams to go on holiday independently. The Harriet Davis Trust provides fantastic properties which meet all of Greg’s needs so with his development team to support him we’ve been able to make that dream come true. When we focus on abilities, special things can happen.’

This year’s service supported two important charities — the Fire Fighters Charity and Cancer Research Wales — with all proceeds going directly towards their ongoing work.

A total of £597 was raised on the night, which will be shared equally between the two charities.

The Service thanked the congregation at Ebeneser Baptist Chapel for hosting the event, as well as everyone who gave their time, support and generosity to make the evening such a success.

Castle Inn fun runners back festive charity event

THE ANNUAL 3 Amigos Christmas toy bike run is under way this afternoon (Saturday), with hundreds of motorcyclists setting off from Pembroke to raise funds for children’s services.

Riders gathered at The Commons car park in Pembroke from around midday before departing shortly after 1:00pm. The festive convoy is travelling along its traditional route, taking in Pembroke Dock and continuing through parts of the county including Neyland, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The event is organised by the 3 Amigos and Dollies Motorcycle Group and has become a much-anticipated Christmas tradition in west Wales, with toys and donations collected for children receiving care within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.

Also supporting the event are fun runners from the Castle Inn in Pembroke, who have been fundraising in aid of the 3 Amigos. The group are pictured alongside participants from today’s run.

The 3 Amigos have been raising funds for children’s wards and health charities for more than twenty-five years, with their Easter and Christmas events continuing to make a positive difference to young patients and their families.

Organisers have thanked the public for their support and asked road users to be mindful of the large convoy as it passes through towns and villages this afternoon.
