Runners join Dan’s charity challenge

Charity challenge: Dan is joined by students, staff and family members at the Fun Run.
A PEMBROKESHIRE charity runner was joined by almost 40 supporters for a very special Fun Run last w eek.
38 runners – including 15 youngsters from the Autism Centre at Pembroke School – joined leisure centre worker Dan Mumford on a two lap mile course around the school grounds on Friday (May 1).
The run was in aid of Dan’s epic charity challenge of running 2,015 miles in 2015 for mental health charity Mind Pembrokeshire.
Dan, who is a Duty Officer at Tenby Leisure Centre, embarked on his challenge in Januar y.
With the support of family and friends, he aims to tot up the mileage in a series of gruelling distance events spread across the course of this y ear.
To date he has run 600 miles notching up an ultra marathon in Llanelli and the Greater Manchester marathon.
Friday’s runners… and walkers, who included Autism Centre staff and family members, raised £400 towards his target of £2,600.
“I was thrilled at the students’ dedication,” said Dan af terwards.
“They put in 100 percent effort into completing the one mile challenge and were really proud to have raised such a sum of money towards Mind Pembrokeshire.
“I’m on course for meeting my running target and was delighted to take a break from the longer distances and join the youngsters on their Fun Run and Walk,” said Dan.
“Mental health conditions are very common in people with Autism so it’s great that we can all get together to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity.”
The 31 year-old from Carew, who suffered from depression two years ago, said running had helped him with his own health problems and he wanted to spread the message about how beneficial it could be.
“I run for my own mental health and it’s part of the reason why I have embarked on my project,” he said. “I also want to encourage others to get ac tive.”
Following Friday’s Fun Run, Dan will be gearing up for some longer distances over the summer including next month’s Swansea half marathon.

3 Amigos toy bike run under way across Pembrokeshire
Castle Inn fun runners back festive charity event
THE ANNUAL 3 Amigos Christmas toy bike run is under way this afternoon (Saturday), with hundreds of motorcyclists setting off from Pembroke to raise funds for children’s services.
Riders gathered at The Commons car park in Pembroke from around midday before departing shortly after 1:00pm. The festive convoy is travelling along its traditional route, taking in Pembroke Dock and continuing through parts of the county including Neyland, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The event is organised by the 3 Amigos and Dollies Motorcycle Group and has become a much-anticipated Christmas tradition in west Wales, with toys and donations collected for children receiving care within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
Also supporting the event are fun runners from the Castle Inn in Pembroke, who have been fundraising in aid of the 3 Amigos. The group are pictured alongside participants from today’s run.
The 3 Amigos have been raising funds for children’s wards and health charities for more than twenty-five years, with their Easter and Christmas events continuing to make a positive difference to young patients and their families.
Organisers have thanked the public for their support and asked road users to be mindful of the large convoy as it passes through towns and villages this afternoon.
