Dragons parade for St David’s Day

An annual Dragon Parade: Taking place in St Davids
THE STREETS of Britain’s smallest city will be awash with colour on Saturday (Feb 27) as people flock to St Davids to celebrate Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre’s annual Dragon Parade.
More than 150 Pembrokeshire school children and Residential Care Group members will proudly display their homemade dragons as they march through the city, accompanied by the 948 Squadron Air Corps Training Band.
Oriel y Parc Manager, Jenn Jones, said: “The Dragon Parade has become an important part of the St David’s Day celebrations and continues to inspire children and adults from all over Pembrokeshire to celebrate Wales’ patron saint.
“We’re also running a children’s fancy dress competition and have dragon-themed events throughout the day to keep everyone entertained.”
The Dragon Parade will leave the Oriel y Parc courtyard at 11am and head to the High Street before travelling around the Cross Square before turning to Oriel y Parc.
The fancy dress competition will be judged in two categories: children under seven years old and children seven to 11 years old. There are cash prizes on offer for first and second place in each category, which will be judged before the parade.
The dragon-themed games will be free for all to try and there will also be a chance to see the range of free exhibitions on display at Oriel y Parc.
If one day of excitement isn’t enough, there will be an opportunity to see vintage motorcycles at Oriel y Parc from 10.30am on Sunday (Feb 28).
There is also a packed schedule of St David’s Day activities and events going on in and around St Davids throughout the weekend through to March 1. For full details visit www.stdavids.gov.uk/even

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
