71-year-old braves 12,000ft freefall for charity

Raising money for Cancer Research Wales: Dilwyn will brave the parachute jump on Saturday May 14
DILWYN WILLIAMS, aged 71, from Builth Wells is set to brave a sponsored 12,000ft freefall parachute jump to raise money for Cancer Research on Saturday May 14.
Helicopter Pilot Dilwyn, who is currently renovating and upgrading the Atlantic View B&B in Broad Haven, will be jumping from an aeroplane as a special thank you for everything Cancer Research UK has done for his family.
On the day of the jump, full training will be given to Dilwyn before he takes the plunge.
He will be harnessed to an experienced parachute instructor, freefalling at least 6,000 feet at approximately 120 miles per hour. The parachute will then be deployed and he’ll be steered to the landing zone by his attached instructor.
Friends and family will be allowed to watch him complete this incredible feat from the ground.
All proceeds from the jump will go to Cancer Research Wales at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, which Dilwyn is hoping will be in the region of £1,000.
Speaking about a donation he has received with a covering letter from a former patient of the Cancer Centre, he said: “This makes it real for me.
“To hear from people who have had their lives affected by the work going on at the centre I’m raising money for makes it all so special to me.
“The support I’m receiving is inspiring. This centre helps so many from across the country and it’s great to be able to give back to them.”
The letter said: “I admire you for doing the parachute jump at your age. I was a patient at Velindre about forty years ago. I was there for two months, having external treatment four days a week and internal treatment every Wednesday. “I owe my life to Velindre Hospital as I am 86 years of age now, and fit and well enjoying my life. The staff there were so kind and the nurses made me feel so at ease.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Dilwyn can telephone him on 07836 784558 or send cheques, which can be made payable to Cancer Research Wales, to his address at Cribarth Farm, Llanafan Fawr, Builth Wells.

A HAVERFORDWEST man has been sent to Swansea Crown Court to stand trial on a series of A 49-year-old Haverfordwest resident has been committed to Swansea Crown Court to face trial on multiple serious charges deemed too grave for magistrates to handle.
David Guy, of Market Street, Haverfordwest, appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates facing a series of allegations stemming from a single case. The charges, which were not detailed in open court, include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- A second count of assault
- Criminal damage

- A public order offence

Castlemartin man back before magistrates over multiple alleged assaults
Defendant remanded on conditional bail ahead of further hearing
A CASTLEMARTIN man has appeared repeatedly before magistrates this month over a string A 40-year-old man from Castlemartin has made repeated appearances before magistrates this month in connection with a series of serious alleged offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), intentional non-fatal strangulation, common assault, and criminal damage.
Anthony Alcock, of Pwll Street, Castlemartin, is facing six linked charges stemming from incidents said to have occurred earlier this year. These appear to relate to the same complainant in what is understood to be a single ongoing domestic abuse prosecution.
During recent administrative hearings at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court, Alcock did not enter pleas while matters of bail and case management were addressed.
Charges Include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Intentional non-fatal strangulation
- Common assault on a woman
- Criminal damage in a domestic context
- Additional assault allegations involving the same complainant
- Breach of bail conditions
Alcock was initially granted conditional bail but was subsequently brought before the court on two occasions for alleged breaches. On those instances, magistrates remanded him in custody ahead of further hearings. He was later re-granted conditional bail, subject to strict conditions such as no contact with the complainant and exclusion from specified locations.
Magistrates have now declined jurisdiction, ruling that the case—particularly the more serious charges involving non-fatal strangulation—is too grave for summary trial. It has been committed to Swansea Crown Court for plea, trial, or sentencing.
No detailed evidence has been presented in open court at this preliminary stage. Alcock remains on conditional bail pending his next appearance at the Crown Court.
