Champions see off Town

NEYLAND cemented their position as Division 1 Champions on Saturday (Aug 17) as they beat Haverfordwest by five wickets.

Town had reached 71-2 in the nineteenth over and looked well set to go on and make a good score with Danny Potter having reached his half century.

However, his wicket sparked a collapse as Town crumbled to 102 all out inside 39 overs.

Town did their best to pull off a surprise win as they took five Neyland wickets but Ross Hardy kept his nerve to see Neyland over the line.

Neyland won the toss and elected to field and they saw Danny Potter and Mike Jones shared 28 runs for the first wicket inside the first ten overs.

Banner then bowled Mike Jones and soon after, Nick Koomen trapped Simon Holliday leg before on a score of 12 that included a four and a six.

Potter and Dai Davies shared another 24 runs for the third wicket before Potter, who hit nine fours in his score of 53, was caught by George Evans off the bowling of Andrew Miller.

That left Town on 71-3 and it soon became 80-4 when Miller had Davies caught by Koomen.

Ross Hardy then trapped Ben Field leg before and with the very next ball did the same to Dan Field to plunge Town further intro trouble on 80-6.

Hardy then claimed his third wicket when he had Jack Scriven stumped by Sean Hannon and Miller then claimed his third as he had Lee Summons caught by Ashley Sutton.

That left Town on 82-8 but Ashley James and Simon Williams offered some late resistance.

James scored 16 but then saw himself caught by Sutton off the bowling of Tom Pritchard.

The same bowler then brought the innings to a close as he bowled Williams, giving Neyland a target of 103 for victory.

The home side lost Henry Durrant early in their reply when he was caught by Jack Scriven off the bowling of Ashley James.

Nick Koomen and Geraint Rees then shared 41 runs for the second wicket as they moved closer to their target.

Clive Tucker then had Koomen caught by Lee Summons on a score of 22 and soon after he had Rees caught by Danny Potter.

Simon Holliday then had Ashley Sutton caught by Jack Scriven and when Holliday bowled George Evans, Neyland had slipped to 63-5.

However, Ross Hardy and Nathan Banner held their nerve to see Neyland to victory.

Banner hit four fours as his score of 19 came from 18 balls while Hardy was not out on 34 from 24 balls, the last of his four sixes winning the game for the Champions.

After the game, Neyland were presented with the Division 1 trophy by County Chairman Paul Webb and sponsors representative Brian Hawkins.

On Saturday (Aug 24), Neyland will look to round their season off in style as they travel to Whitland.

Town will look to keep hold of fifth place as they take on fourth placed Carew.

Her mother, Sian Thorne, expressed immense pride in Seren’s achievement, sharing photos of the memorable evening.

Previewing the 2025 Super Bowl

Each year millions of people across the world gather to watch one of the biggest sporting events of the year – the Super Bowl. Last year, 3.4 million people in the UK watched the Super Bowl, up 1.1 million from the previous year. Considering the growth in popularity of American football in the UK, we anticipate the viewership will be even higher for 2025.

The 2025 Super Bowl is scheduled to take place on 9 February 2025 at Caesars Superdrome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

NFL teams

12 teams began competing for a spot in the 2025 Super Bowl when the playoffs began on January 11. At this point, four teams were eliminated. This now leaves eight teams to compete in the Divisional playoffs. Four of these will make it to the Conference Championships before contesting for a spot at this year’s Super Bowl.

The eight teams left with a shot at competing in the 2025 Super Bowl are:

Baltimore Ravens
Buffalo Bills
Detroit Lions
Houston Texans
Kansas City Chiefs
Los Angeles Rams
Washington Commanders

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs took the title for the second year in a row. However, the latest Super Bowl odds puts the Detroit Lions as the favourites to win this year’s Super Bowl, following a series of impressive performances in the regular season.

The national anthem and halftime show

Before the game commences, a special guest performs the national anthem. Last year, Reba McEntire offered a moving performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, and this year the task falls to jazz singer Jon Batiste.

It’s not just the football match that people look forward to. Super Bowl halftime shows are a spectacle in themselves and many look forward to the performance as much as the game itself. This year, 17-time grammy winner Kendrick Lamar is headlining the halftime show. Lamar previously headlined the Super Bowl in 2022.

How can I watch the Super Bowl in the UK?

The Super Bowl is being broadcast to fans free on ITV, including live online via ITVX on your laptop, mobile, or tablet.

Sky Sports is also broadcasting the event which you can watch online via Sky Go, NOW TV, or using the Sky Sports mobile app. You could also head to your local pub as plenty of pubs in Pembrokeshire will be showing the big game.
