Spinners see county to comfortable win
PEMBROKESHIRE Under 13s entertained Cardiff at a sun soaked Burton Cricket Club on Sunday.
Pembrokeshire won the toss and elected to bat first on a glorious batting wicket. Despite losing a wicket off the first ball, Pembrokeshire made a good start reaching 79 for 2 in the 20th over. Lloyd Bartlett got out for a wellmade 20, and John Mansbridge went soon after for 44, after building his innings brilliantly before being caught at square leg. Jake Merry joined Noah Davies at the crease in the 27th over and a partnership of 83 made in double quick time helped push Pembrokeshire towards a competitive total. Noah (59) and Jake (40no) both ran well and hit the ball hard to get to 205 for 4 at the close. Nikhil Mathias must also get a mention for a classy on drive off the last ball of the innings, the only ball he faced. Cardiff also made a good start reaching 99 for 2 in the 26th over. After drinks Sam Hopkins brought up his 50, hitting nine 4s in the process. With both batsmen trying to push the run rate, Pembrokeshire brought on the spinners from both ends and wickets followed quickly with Hopkins being caught by Lewis Hough in the deep off Ollie Wheelers bowling. In the very next over Nathan Coaker bowled Harry Edwards and Cardiff’s run chase was starting to look out of reach. Wickets fell regularly for Cardiff as they fell short of the required total finishing on 170 for 8 in their 40 overs. Lewis Hough returned the best figures for Pembrokeshire with 3 for 24, Jack Wilson, Lloyd Bartlett, Nathan Coaker and Ollie Wheeler were the other wicket takers with Chloe Hood also getting a run out. Praise must also go to Noah Davies whose 5 overs for 2 runs came at a crucial time and pegged Cardiff right back. A morale boosting win for Pembrokeshire and one that was richly deserved after great displays with the bat, ball and in the field. All involved with the team would like to thank Burton Cricket Club for being great hosts and preparing a fantastic pitch. Pembrokeshire under 13s next match is against Carmarthenshire at Hook Cricket Club on Sunday, June 29.

Seasiders dominate in 5-2 win over Swifts
TENBY earned a commanding 5-2 victory against visitors Monkton Swifts at The Clicketts on Saturday (Nov 9). Jerome Williams opened the scoring just ten minutes in, following a well-placed setup from veteran Joe Leahy. Skipper Dan Evans doubled the lead nine minutes later with a stunning 35-yard drive, expertly placing a right-footed shot beyond Monkton’s keeper, Taylor Gullam, who was frequently called into action during a shaky defensive showing by the Swifts.
Williams struck again to put Tenby 3-0 up midway through the first half, but both he and fellow forward Scott Fearney found themselves in the sin bin for ten minutes shortly after. Despite being down to nine men, Tenby maintained control, adjusting their tactics to retain possession. Leahy then scored a spectacular fourth goal, launching a 50-yard chip from just inside the Swifts’ half over the head of a retreating Gullam after receiving a clearance from man of the match Curtis Hurlow.
Monkton struggled to find their rhythm, though central midfielder Gareth Finnegan led a determined push that eventually paid off with a goal eight minutes before halftime. However, Swifts’ efforts were marred by a booking for winger Josh Clarke just before the break for a late challenge.
Fearney added Tenby’s fifth goal ten minutes into the second half, effectively sealing the win. Monkton’s Ryan Hughes managed to pull one back from a scrambled corner with 15 minutes left, bringing the score to 5-2. Both managers, Gareth Noot (Tenby) and Stuart James (Monkton), rotated their squads with substitutions in the closing stages.
Tenby’s centre-half Charlie Gregory was cautioned for a late tackle, and Swifts’ skipper Ben Steele saw time in the sin bin in the final minute. Third-placed Tenby now look forward to hosting Kilgetty next weekend, while the Swifts prepare to welcome title-chasers Hakin United to Monkton Lane.
