Published

on

BLUE HORIZONS CIC Surf Club has announced an exciting opportunity for children and adults with additional needs to enjoy a free boat trip. Scheduled for Saturday, 16th of December, the club plans to run three one-hour-long trips, ensuring a broad reach of participation.

The trips will depart from Neyland Marina.

What makes these trips particularly noteworthy is their inclusive design, catering to all individuals, including those who use wheelchairs. In an effort to ensure comfort and safety, the club has made arrangements to provide warm, dry robes for all participants.

Moreover, the boat is equipped with a large cabin, offering protection from the wind and a cozy environment.

This generous initiative has been made possible through the collaboration and sponsorship of the Milford Haven Port Authority and the donation of a boat by Dale Sailing Company Ltd.

Additionally, the club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Graham Da Gama Howells, the skipper volunteering his time and expertise for these trips.

Individuals interested in joining these inclusive boat trips are encouraged to contact Blue Horizons directly to book a space.

The club emphasizes the importance of making these experiences accessible and enjoyable, inviting participants to bring along a carer or family member to share in this unique outing.

For bookings or inquiries, Blue Horizons can be contacted at 07561419894.

Fishguard power supply reinforcement welcomed by MP

Published

on

BEN LAKE, MP for Ceredigion Preseli, has welcomed efforts to strengthen electricity supplies in Fishguard, following a visit to see National Grid Electricity Distribution’s (NGED) reinforcement work.

The MP met with engineers overseeing the project, which aims to enhance the resilience of the town’s power network while accommodating growing electricity demand. Engineers assured him that efforts were being made to minimise disruption to residents, despite the challenges of working on narrow streets.

Ben Lake MP said: “I was pleased to walk around the Fishguard reinforcement scheme with the National Grid Electricity Distribution team and meet their local contractors. These upgrades will increase the resilience of the electricity network, allowing residents to connect low-carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. They will also enable National Grid to restore power more quickly in the event of outages.”

Andrew Davies, NGED’s Head of Operations for West Wales, said: “We are carrying out essential reinforcement work in Fishguard to improve the resilience and reliability of the town’s electricity supply.

“This work will help meet both current and future electricity demand as we support the energy transition and drive economic growth.”

Llansteffan flood investigation report published

Published

on

CARMARTHENSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL has published its Flood Investigation Report following flooding events in Llansteffan over the New Year period of 2023/24. The report examines the causes and impacts of the flooding and outlines recommendations to improve flood risk management in the area.

During two storms on 30 December 2023 and 2 January 2024, approximately 34 properties in Llansteffan were affected by flooding to varying degrees. While the recorded rainfall levels—19mm and 32mm respectively—were not exceptional, they followed an unusually prolonged wet period, making ground conditions highly saturated. This contributed to increased surface water runoff, which overwhelmed local watercourses. The flooding was further exacerbated by the burial of a key outfall under the beach, preventing effective drainage between the two storms.

To understand the events and impacts, three stakeholder engagement sessions were held in April 2024, allowing affected residents to share their experiences. The investigation also reviewed the response efforts of key agencies, including Carmarthenshire County Council, Natural Resources Wales, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The report concludes with a series of actions aimed at improving flood risk management, enhancing community resilience, and reviewing maintenance and operational activities.

Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services – Cllr Edward Thomas said:“Over a year has passed since this event in Llansteffan, however my thoughts are with those within the local community that were affected by the flooding and are still impacted by its devastating effect.

“Carmarthenshire County Council welcomes the publishing of the Flood Investigation Report and we will oversee the implementation of these recommendations through a multi-agency project group, which we will continue to chair in the short term. The Council remains committed to working closely with all relevant authorities and the local community to help mitigate future flood risks and enhance preparedness.”
