Five-try Quins earn Cup win over Bynea
PEMBROKE Dock Quins pulled off this Division 3 Cup tie win, but with Vardre beating Tonmawr progression into the next round is beyond them.
The Quins got off to a slow start, but with the scrum showing a big improvement they started to show their authority, and in the 15th minute they hit the visitors with two tries, first No8 Harry Owen powered over from 10 yards out, then straight from the restart Centre Aaron James ran in from 30yds, beating defender after defender.
Scrum Half Morgan Rogers Converted both to put the Quins 14-0 up with just over a quarter hour gone.
On the half hour mark the Quins were brought down to earth when Bynea, with their first real attack, scored a fine try when they outflanked the Quins defence for Full Back Jake Samuel to touch down in the corner.
The exceptional windy conditions did not help Flanker Finlay Cookes Conversion attempt, so with the score at 14-5 the visitors were back in it.
The Quins then hit Bynea with two more quick tries, first Centre Gethin Bradney was once again on the score sheet, running on to a perfectly weighted kick ahead from Right Wing Thomas Wheeler, a superb pick up sent the young Centre over the line.
Morgan Rogers just missed the Conversion but a few minutes later the Quins were on the score sheet again through Replacement Prop Jack Davies who scored from close range.
This time Morgan Rogers judged his Conversion perfectly in the blustery conditions, with his kick going over via the upright.
The half time whistle soon followed as the Quins went in 26-5 to the good and well in control.
The second half with the wind seemingly getting worse did not enhance the thrills of the first half, indeed it was the visitors who took more control, but it was not until the hour mark that they grabbed their second try, after a horrendous mix up in the Quins corner Center Jack Morgan dived on the loose ball for an unconverted try to give his side some hope.
Bynea were now well on top as the Quins conceded far to many penalties and a second Bynea try soon followed when Finlay Cooke ran in under the posts. He then converted himself to bring the score back to 26-17 with only a few minutes left.
The result was put beyond doubt with the last move of the match as the Quins scored their fifth try through second Row Danny Wilkes, Morgan Rogers converted as the referee blew for full time.

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
