Journalists

TOM SINCLAIR

Having read Law and Japanese at university Tom Sinclair helped to start The Pembrokeshire Herald in 2013 and has been its editor since the early days. Since then, the newspaper has gone from strength to strength and has recently been a winner at The Welsh Media Awards. Despite being the editor of the paper Tom has kept his hand in with journalism, as has written over 10,000 articles for the newspaper on everything from local crime to large scale incidents. He mainly concentrates on the Milford Haven and Haverfordwest areas on Pembrokeshire, but reports on matters further afield when necessary.

JON COLES

Having a background in the legal profession, and with many decades experience in writing, Jon joined the Pembrokeshire Herald in 2013 and has been the political editor and deputy editor since 2015. His sharp eye for focussing on the important details of a story has led him to many a scoop. His areas of work include reporting on The Welsh Government, the NHS in Wales, and local politics. A native of Pembroke Dock and both a keen chess and cricket player Jon has the local contacts and discipline to provide strong local news content.

JAMES HEMINGRAY

James is a graduate in Journalism from Nottingham University and has been working at The Pembrokeshire Herald for eight years. A keen sportswriter, James provides nearly all of the sports content for The Herald but is also a talented local government journalist and often covers county council and community council meetings. You can also find him at the local magistrates’ court reporting on cases for the newspaper. He is also a photographer and uses a long lens to catch all the action on the local sports fields.

CARLI NEWELL

Carli specialises in human interest stories, and has provided many front pages for this newspaper over the years. Her crisp and exciting writing style keeps the reader captivated whilst never veering off from the true facts of the story. Carli is also a qualified court reporter with experience of covering many major cases at both a magistrates and crown court level. Usually based at the office, Carli has firmly cemented herself as a key member of The Pembrokeshire Herald team.

CERYS LAFFERTY

Cerys is a trainee journalist working at The Pembrokeshire Herald whilst she completes her Journalism and Media studies at a Cardiff-based university. Although a new member of the team, she has hit the ground running and has impressed her more established colleagues with her passion for the story, and fast but accurate reporting. With several major stories under her belt, Cerys is said to be developing as a journalist well and is touted to go far in the industry.
