P E M B R O K E S H I R E COUNTY COUNCIL staff are to give local residents in need a helping hand.
The Council has set up a new drop-off point at County Hall in Haverfordwest for the Pembrokeshire foodbank.
The foodbank provides emergency help for local families struggling to put food on the table.
The new drop-off point will enable council staff – and members of the public – to donate food for distribution to local families in need.
“It’s an indictment of our society that so many people live in poverty and these foodbanks need to exist,” said Councillor Sue Perkins, Cabinet Member for Education and Safeguarding.
“However given that this is the reality that we live in, it behoves is all to do what we can to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
“This new drop-off point makes it easier for us to do our bit and I would encourage everyone to donate what they can.”
Welcoming the new drop-off point at County Hall, Tirzah Redman, Manager of the Pembrokeshire foodbank said: “Rising food and fuel prices, static incomes, underemployment and changes to benefits are some of the reasons why increasing numbers were being referred to foodbanks for emergency food.”
The Pembrokeshire foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network. It helps local churches and communities to open foodbanks providing emergency food to thousands of people ev ery year.
In the past 12 months, Trussell Trust foodbanks fed over one million adults and children nationwide – an increase of 19 per c ent.
Other Pembrokeshire foodbank drop-off points are:
Haverfordwest: Hill Park Baptist Church Prendergast. Tuesday 10am to 1pm
Narberth: Liberty Cafe, Market Square. Wednesday 11am to 2pm
Letterston: St Giles Church Centre. Thursday 11am to 2pm

David Guy, of Market Street, Haverfordwest, appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates facing a series of allegations stemming from a single case. The charges, which were not detailed in open court, include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- A second count of assault
- Criminal damage
- An additional allegation of interpersonal violence
- A public order offence

Castlemartin man back before magistrates over multiple alleged assaults
Defendant remanded on conditional bail ahead of further hearing
A CASTLEMARTIN man has appeared repeatedly before magistrates this month over a string A 40-year-old man from Castlemartin has made repeated appearances before magistrates this month in connection with a series of serious alleged offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), intentional non-fatal strangulation, common assault, and criminal damage.
Anthony Alcock, of Pwll Street, Castlemartin, is facing six linked charges stemming from incidents said to have occurred earlier this year. These appear to relate to the same complainant in what is understood to be a single ongoing domestic abuse prosecution.
During recent administrative hearings at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court, Alcock did not enter pleas while matters of bail and case management were addressed.
Charges Include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Intentional non-fatal strangulation
- Common assault on a woman
- Criminal damage in a domestic context
- Additional assault allegations involving the same complainant
- Breach of bail conditions
Alcock was initially granted conditional bail but was subsequently brought before the court on two occasions for alleged breaches. On those instances, magistrates remanded him in custody ahead of further hearings. He was later re-granted conditional bail, subject to strict conditions such as no contact with the complainant and exclusion from specified locations.
Magistrates have now declined jurisdiction, ruling that the case—particularly the more serious charges involving non-fatal strangulation—is too grave for summary trial. It has been committed to Swansea Crown Court for plea, trial, or sentencing.
No detailed evidence has been presented in open court at this preliminary stage. Alcock remains on conditional bail pending his next appearance at the Crown Court.

Is this the council that gave a pittance to the council care homes to feed the old folks for the day, got taken to court and lost?
The same ones that allow the councillors to claim more for ONE MEAL than the pittance for 3 or 4 meals and drinks referred to above?
