An eventful summer at Milford Marina
MILFORD MARINA continues to be a hive of activity this summer as an exciting programme of events takes place over the coming months.
Following the success of Milford Fish Festival in June, the marina is becoming a sought after location to stage everything from awards ceremonies to cruise calls.
In July, the marina hosted the 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire Business Awards, sponsored by the Port of Milford Haven. This event was held on Mackerel Quay and aimed to recognise and reward business individuals and companies who play a vital role in creating an impact in the county’s economy. 240 guests enjoyed the awards and entertainment from the Garnett Family who starred in Britain’s Got Talent.
Milford Haven Round Table also arranged their first Beer and Cider Festival at the venue, and welcomed some 300 visitors through the day. As well as raising funds for good causes in the town, guests enjoyed live entertainment and the chance to sample beers and ciders from across the county, as well as the popular prosecco and cocktail bar.
On Aug 3 there will be two outdoor performances on Mackerel Quay of ‘Block’, an exciting collaboration between Nofitstate Circus and Motionhouse, at 4.30pm and 7.15pm, followed by the Sunset Cinema screenings of ‘The Goonies’ on Aug 7, and ‘Top Gun’ on Aug 10. Tickets for these three events are available from www.torchtheatre.co.uk or at the box office.
During the school holidays, Healthaspire will be running a Summer Cookery School for children, sponsored by Milford Fish Docks. Participants will learn about the importance of healthy eating and how to cook with fish. Healthaspire is also organising a sponsored walk in aid of Paul Sartori on Sep 11. To find out more about the cookery school or the sponsored walk, please call 01646 278216.
For the second year running, the Port of Milford Haven has teamed up with Milford Youth Matters, the VC Gallery and Arts Care Gofal Celf to stage the ‘Under the Bridge’ project on Friday nights during the school holidays. The initiative takes place under Hakin Bridge between 6.30-8.30pm and offers free urban arts, music and dance activities to 11-18 year olds.
Cruise ships are another popular attraction for the marina. On Aug 17 the Port will host a visit from the cruise vessel Seabourn Quest, followed by Albatross on Sep 15.
Lucy James, Marketing Manager at the Port of Milford Haven, commented, “There is something for everyone at Milford Marina, whether you’re visiting one of the wide selection of independent businesses, or attending an event, we hope that you enjoy your experience. Hosting such a diverse range of activities is an important element of the growth of Milford Marina as a destination, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming many visitors this summer.”

- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- A second count of assault

Castlemartin man back before magistrates over multiple alleged assaults
Defendant remanded on conditional bail ahead of further hearing
A CASTLEMARTIN man has appeared repeatedly before magistrates this month over a string A 40-year-old man from Castlemartin has made repeated appearances before magistrates this month in connection with a series of serious alleged offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), intentional non-fatal strangulation, common assault, and criminal damage.
Anthony Alcock, of Pwll Street, Castlemartin, is facing six linked charges stemming from incidents said to have occurred earlier this year. These appear to relate to the same complainant in what is understood to be a single ongoing domestic abuse prosecution.
During recent administrative hearings at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court, Alcock did not enter pleas while matters of bail and case management were addressed.
Charges Include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Intentional non-fatal strangulation
- Common assault on a woman
- Criminal damage in a domestic context
- Additional assault allegations involving the same complainant
- Breach of bail conditions
Alcock was initially granted conditional bail but was subsequently brought before the court on two occasions for alleged breaches. On those instances, magistrates remanded him in custody ahead of further hearings. He was later re-granted conditional bail, subject to strict conditions such as no contact with the complainant and exclusion from specified locations.
Magistrates have now declined jurisdiction, ruling that the case—particularly the more serious charges involving non-fatal strangulation—is too grave for summary trial. It has been committed to Swansea Crown Court for plea, trial, or sentencing.
No detailed evidence has been presented in open court at this preliminary stage. Alcock remains on conditional bail pending his next appearance at the Crown Court.
