Angle lifeboats in search for swimmers
RNLI ANGLE’S all weather and inshore lifeboats were launched on Sunday, shortly before 8am, to search for two persons last seen three hours earlier entering the water at Castle Pill, Milford Haven, attempting to swim to Pembroke Dock – some three miles upriver.
The relief all weather lifeboat searched mid channel, her Y Boat searched the southern shore from Popton Point and the inshore lifeboat searched the northern shore from Gelliswick, all going eastwards.
After about 30 minutes of searching, the casualties were found safe and well ashore at Pembroke Dock. The lifeboats were stood down and returned to their station to be rehoused about 9am.
It was the third call-out in four days for the lifeboat station.
In the early hours of Friday morning, the relief all weather lifeboat launched at 3.33 after a passenger was taken ill on board the Irish ferry Isle of Inishmore, which was holding station in Dale Roads while en route from Pembroke Dock to Rosslare.
The lifeboat transferred two crew members to the ferry to carry out medical assessments with the casualty. It was decided that the safest option of evacuation was for the ferry to return to her Pembroke Dock terminal and hand the casualty over to an ambulance. With the casualty in the care of ambulance personnel, the lifeboat recovered her crew members and returned to her station to be rehoused at 5.50am.
The previous day the relief all weather lifeboat had launched at 11.47am to go to the aid of a 7m open boat, which had broken down at Vomit Point, near St Ann’s Head. There were two persons on board.
Once on scene the lifeboat rigged a tow and a course was set for Gelliswick Bay, where the boat had set out from earlier in the day. At Gelliswick the lifeboat’s Y Boat was launched and took the casualty vessel under tow to the water’s edge, where it was recovered onto a trailer.
The Y Boat was recovered and the lifeboat returned to her station.
