Defendants plead guilty to assault
A 36-YEAR-OLD man and a teenager, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to assault of a man at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Lee Billing, of Prendergast, Haverfordwest and his co-defendant committed the assault on August 8 last year. Prosecuting, Vaughan Pritchard- Jones said: “This is an unfortunate matter that occurred out of a matrimonial breakdown. This incident occurred when the defendants saw Lee’s former partner in Tesco, Haverfordwest.
She was concerned for her safety and wanted her new boyfriend to come to the store to give her some assurance. However, the two left before the complainant arrived. As they left the complainant drove in. The defendant who was driving cut across his path causing him to stop and he realised who it was. One of the defendants got out of the car and started swearing at the complainant and a confrontation then occurred. The complainant was pushed to the chest and to prevent anymore pushing he gave him a shove causing him to fall to the floor.
Lee Billing has then got out of the car and has thrown a punch to the side of the man’s head. There were other members of the public who witnessed this as a traffic jam had built up behind them as they could not get through. The complainant suffered minor soft tissue injuries and had a small red mark in the middle of his forehead. The complainant has asked us to consider issuing a restraining order as there has been other incidents.”
Defending, Mark Layton said: “The CCTV of the store shows nothing untoward. Lee has punched him and he accepts that he marginally exceeded the law and his actions went beyond self defence.” The Magistrates ordered Billing to pay £150, £20 victim surcharge, £100 in compensation and £300 in court costs. A restraining order was also issued and that will last for two years. The teenager was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay a total of £90.

Dangerous Tenby paedophile sentenced to 15 years jail
HIGH-RISK Tenby sex offender Christopher Flavin, 72, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for grooming and sexually abusing young boys, and creating indecent images of children. Flavin, described by His Honour Judge Geraint Walters as a “dangerous paedophile,” admitted in October to producing 12 Category B and 296 Category C indecent images of children between 2018 and 2023.
On Friday (Dec 6) at Swansea Crown Court, the prosecution, led by Mr Scapens described Flavin as “nothing but a committed paedophile,” detailing the lengths to which he went to exploit his victims, many of whom were young boys aged between 10 and 16. The court heard a personal statement from a complainant, under 13, who detailed the psychological trauma he has endured. “In the past few months, I have had feelings of sadness, which makes me cry. I have also been having nightmares and don’t want to leave the room at night.”
Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Flavin attempted to deflect responsibility during proceedings. He represented himself after failing to secure legal counsel and claimed that the complainant had instigated inappropriate behaviours, stating, “He needs help with his mental health. He was obsessed with masturbation and sex.” Such assertions were dismissed by the court, with Judge Walters highlighting the “manipulative” nature of Flavin’s abuse.
The prosecution revealed that Flavin had groomed young boys, forcing them into sexual activities on school premises and targeting children. In addition to inappropriate touching during swimming lessons, he sought to isolate his victims by arranging camping trips.
Further evidence presented during the hearing revealed Flavin’s continuous breaches of a sexual harm order. He was observed in a park designated for children and around a local high school, raising significant concerns about his behaviour. Flavin’s refusal to engage with court proceedings, including prison video links, proved his lack of remorse for his actions.
His Honour Judge Geraint Walters condemned Flavin’s predatory behaviour, remarking on the disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse that had characterised his life. “You have spent a lifetime grooming and abusing boys, even at this age. I heard that the victim has been having nightmares about it all and refusing to leave his bedroom at night. That is the effect on young impressionable children. It’s wicked behaviour, and it’s not the first time you engaged in this,” he said.
Flavin’s extensive criminal record revealed 33 prior offences, 27 of which were sexual in nature. Judge Geraint Walters noted that despite previous long sentences, including one exceeding 50 months, Flavin had “learnt nothing” and continued his abusive behaviour. “You claimed that you’re the victim. The reality is you’re committed to behaving in this way,”
In addition to the 15 year prison sentence, the judge imposed an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim. Judge Walters concluded, ordering the sentence as a measure to prevent further harm to vulnerable children.

ALDI has announced ambitious plans to develop a new, larger food store in Cardigan to replace its current location on Aberystwyth Road. The award-winning discount retailer aims to enhance access to its high-quality, affordable products while boosting the local economy with a £7 million investment.
Key features of the proposed store
- Increased capacity: A 1,297 sqm sales area to better serve the growing demand in Cardigan and surrounding areas.
- Job opportunities: Retention of 39 existing local jobs, with an additional 10 roles created at the new store. All roles will pay industry-leading rates above the National Living Wage.

- Economic boost: Employment opportunities during construction and across the supply chain.
- Community-focused design: Attractive landscaping to integrate the store into its surroundings.
Addressing community needs
Aldi’s current store on Aberystwyth Road has been struggling to meet demand due to space limitations, both within the store and in its car park. The new location, off Bath House Road, will address these challenges while continuing to serve residents until the transition is complete. Employees from the existing store will transfer to the new site upon its opening.
The development will revitalize a long-vacant site, situated near the ongoing Home Bargains store construction, bringing further vibrancy to the area.

Rob Jones, Aldi’s Real Estate Director, expressed enthusiasm for the project, saying:
“We are thrilled to bring forward plans for a new, larger, replacement Aldi store in Cardigan. We encourage residents to participate in our virtual consultation or attend our public exhibition to learn more about the scheme and share their views.”
