Pembroke Dock: Classic cars return
THE HERITAGE FLYING BOAT CENTRE in Pembroke Dock are holding their Classic Car Show next Saturday (Aug 6) from 10am – 1pm.
There will be free admission to Classic Car Owners prior to joining the Quins Carnival driving through Pembroke Dock town to the Quins Rugby Field.
The Heritage Centre building had originally been a chapel, a garrison theatre, cinema and subsequently a motor museum which opened in July 1968 by Mr & Mrs Chester Smith with help of their son, John.
There were many cars on display including an impressive Lagonda Rapide Tourer. A Rolls Royce Hooper Limousine was regularly hired out for wedding hire driven by John at a cost of £10 including petrol.
Several of the cars on display were on loan, Chester’s own 1903 curved-dash Oldsmobile was regularly used by himself and his wife Phylis on the Brighton Run.
Refreshments were available from an annex, from the window of which there was a good view of the Sunderland flying-boat which was exhibited next to the museum building.
Chester, Phylis and son John became very well known in the area, where Johnny was often seen driving his Mini Moke around town.
Sadly he died in a car crash in Montpellier, France, in the early 70s and not long after Chester’s wife Phylis died.
Chester sold the motor museum in the 80s, unfortunately the new owner allowed the building to become derelict, thankfully it has been restored to its former glory and completed in 2008.
The Heritage and Sunderland Centre is now housed there, not a large museum but with many high quality exhibits, with helpful and informative staff.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
