Milford Haven: Male found dead in Mount Estate flat
OFFICERS from Milford Haven police discovered the body of a male at an address in Hawthorn Path, Mount Estate, Milford Haven on Sunday evening (May 31).
The police had been contacted on the non-emergency number to get in touch with a resident whose alarm had been going off intermittently for around a fortnight.
Next door neighbour Paul Hodson told The Herald: “I rang Pembrokeshire County Council on May 19 to inform them that there was an alarm going off at the address, because we were not able to get an answer from his door. The council told me not to worry, and that we would send someone around or get in touch with him.”
“Obviously nothing had been done, so tonight I decided to ask a friend to call the police on 101 to say that we were concerned for the welfare of the gentleman, who is in his forties and lives alone.”
“When the police went in they saw that the gentleman had passed away. He had been dead for some time.”
A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council initially said: “We have checked all our records and found no reference to a report being made regarding this property on the Mount at any time in May. The last contact we had about this property was in March.”
On Monday (June 1) the Council contacted the Herald again, saying: “We have double checked our records again and have now identified the call that came in from the neighbour on the Mount Estate on May 19. We are now investigating the actions arising from the call. We apologise for the inaccuracy of our earlier statement.”
A police spokesman told The Herald: “Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a male who was found in a property on the Mount estate on Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2015. The death is currently being treated as unexplained. There are no suspicious circumstances at this time. Next of kin have been advised.”
Mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr Stephen Joseph expressed his condolences to the family and said: “My own experience is using the Council contact centre is very positive and they are normally very helpful. I don’t know where the fault lies with this. Thankfully this is a very isolated incident, and it is very unfortunate that the call wasn’t responded to. I hope the council now investigate quickly and openly as to what went wrong in this case.”

Ferry Terminal ‘extremely busy’ due to ongoing Holyhead closure
PEMBROKE DOCK Ferry Terminal has been experiencing significant congestion today as ferry services remain under immense pressure following the closure of Holyhead Port earlier this month.
The disruption, caused by storm damage, has rerouted ferry traffic through Pembrokeshire, leading to long queues and crowded facilities at the terminal.
The Herald can confirm that it has been very busy today with cars, lorries, and foot passengers queuing in large numbers. Staff are working tirelessly to manage the influx, directing vehicles and assisting passengers as they prepare to board the heavily booked ferries.
A spokesperson for the Port of Milford Haven said: “We are working closely with ferry operators and local authorities to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible, but the sheer volume of vehicles is causing unavoidable delays.”
Travelers are being urged to arrive early for their sailings and to remain patient as the terminal operates at full capacity.
Both Stena Line and Irish Ferries have increased capacity on their Pembrokeshire routes, deploying larger vessels, including the Stena Adventurer and the MV James Joyce, to handle the surge in demand.
From our position at the terminal, our photographer has captured photos showing long lines of vehicles, groups of foot passengers carrying luggage, and port staff coordinating efforts to ease congestion.
Authorities are advising non-essential travelers to consider rescheduling their journeys where possible and to monitor updates from ferry operators closely.

Festive celebrations at St Davids Cathedral this weekend
ST DAVIDS Cathedral is set to host two special events on Sunday (Dec 22), offering a blend of joyful participation and traditional carol singing to mark the Christmas season.
In the morning, families are invited to the Scratch Nativity at 11:00am. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as wise men, angels, sheep, or shepherds and take part in an unrehearsed retelling of the Christmas story. Canon Leigh described the event as: “Complete, wonderful chaos for an hour… but with some poignant, thought-provoking moments to centre ourselves on the real meaning of Christmas.”
Later in the evening, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by Candlelight will take place at 7:00pm, featuring the Cathedral Choir. The event, steeped in tradition, will see the cathedral bathed in candlelight as carols and scripture readings fill the historic space.
Doors will open at 5:45pm for those seeking unreserved seating, and a large turnout is expected for this beloved Christmas celebration.
