Controversial victory for Llanrhian
THERE was controversy in Narberth as a disputed catch by Llanrhian captain Geraint Morris helped dismiss the home side for just 135.
Morris caught Nathan Lloyd on the boundary near the score box, but scorers questioned the positioning of his feet. That saw Narberth facing an uphill battle to defend their small total, and Llanrhian batted well as they reached their target with 13 overs to spare. Llanrhian won the toss and put Narberth in to bat. Andrew Williams was on 16 when he was run out by Robbie Jenkins as the home side made a slow start. Morgan Scale and Sam Mills each batted well as they got Narberth back on track after they slipped to 39-4. Scale scored 32 before he was caught by Aled Harries off the bowling of Gareth Davies. Sam Mills scored 38 before he was also caught by Robbie Jenkins off the bowling of Jack Jones. There was then controversy as Nathan Lloyd looked to help his side reach a more respectable total. Lloyd’s drive to the boundary was caught by Llanrhian captain Geraint Morris, but there were questions afterwards as to whether or not he had stepped over the boundary line. The wicket stood and Jack Jones had the second of his four wickets as Narberth were all out for 135. Llanrhian captain Geraint Morris said afterwards: “My feet were not over the line. I don’t know what all the fuss is about.” Ben Jones and Gareth Davies got Llanrhian off to a good start in their innings as they shared a partnership of 66. Davies fell for 30 to Matthew Johns before captain Morris failed to trouble the scorers as he was caught and bowled by Johns for a duck. Dominic Wright added 32 before he fell to Kamal Sharma. However, Ben Jones finished not out on 58 as they reached their target with plenty of time to spare.
