County cricketers start with hat-trick of wins

PEMBROKESHIRE’s U14 cricket team have started their regional fixtures with a hat-trick of wins.

They comfortably defeated Mid Glamorgan at Burton after bowling the opposition out for 67 runs. Harry Cook (4 for 20 from 7 overs), Geraint Rees (4 for 2 from 5 overs), James Davies (1 for 12 from 7 overs) and Max Brindley (1 for 7 from 4 overs) were the wicket takers. Nicky Jones (36 not out) and Geraint Rees (14) ensured Pembrokeshire cruised to a sevenwicket victory. Carmarthenshire were the next opposition at Hook. Put into bat the visitors totalled 112 with J Rogers (21) and G Williams (22) the main contributors. Pembrokeshire’s bowlers were again in form, with James Davies (3 for 23 from 9 overs), Harry Cook (1 for 22 from 8 overs), Harry Dunn (1 for 11 from 5 overs), Lori Hicks (1 for 11 from 5 overs) and Nick Jones (1 for 9 from 5 overs) taking the wickets. In reply, Pembrokeshire appeared to be cruising to victory with Jacob Lay (41) and Geraint Rees (20), but a flurry of wickets meant a tense finish, before James Thomas with six not out saw them home by two wickets with four overs to spare. The third fixture saw Pembrokeshire play Mid Wales at Llandrindod Wells. Again the opposition were put into bat on a damp pitch and could only muster 84 for 9 in their allotted overs. Pick of the Pembrokeshire bowlers was Geraint Rees (5 for 5 from 8 overs), with James Davies (1 for 29 from 8 overs), Nick Jones (1 for 12 from 5 overs) and Dan Llewellyn (1 for 12 from 7 overs). Lori Hicks also bowled very well, only conceding three runs from his eight overs. Four Pembrokeshire batsmen reached double figures including Ewan Griffiths (18), Jacob Lay (15), Nick Jones (14) and Geraint Rees (11 not out), which was enough to see them reach their target with 16 overs remaining. Coach, Andrew Williams (Narberth CC) is delighted with the start the team has made this season and is looking forward to their remaining fixtures with anticipation.

THE SOUTH Pembrokeshire Short Mat Bowls Association – known as the Friendly League – has released the latest results following week eight of the competition.

Last week’s matches saw:

East Williamston 8–2 Cosheston
Kilgetty 7–3 St Twynnells
Reynalton 5–5 St Johns
Llanteg 8–2 Lamphey

The fixture between Hundleton and Carew was postponed, while Badgers had a bye.

Haverfordwest County Women make it two wins from two in Phase 2

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY AFC Women continued their strong start to Phase 2 with an impressive 4–2 victory over a determined Morriston Town side on Sunday.

It was a superb all-round performance from the Bluebirds, combining sharp team play with some outstanding individual finishes. Striker Kayla Jones led the way with a well-taken brace, while Ella May Mumford and Tayla Gibbs also got on the scoresheet to secure all three points.

The win makes it back-to-back victories in Division A, further strengthening the squad’s momentum going into the next fixture.

Haverfordwest County now turn their attention to their next home match on Sunday 23rd, when they host Bonymaen Colts Ladies.

Sport Pembrokeshire Awards finalists announced

THE FINALISTS for this year’s Sport Pembrokeshire Awards have been revealed, with 39 individuals and clubs shortlisted for honours at the annual celebration of local sporting achievement.

Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “A big thank you to everyone who sent in nominations. The judging panel had an extremely tough task narrowing down such a strong field of candidates.

“Pembrokeshire continues to punch above its weight when it comes to sporting prowess, and I’m sure the awards will once again showcase both on-field success and the incredible efforts of the volunteers and coaches who make it all possible.”

The winners will be unveiled at a gala ceremony at Folly Farm on November 28, organised by Sport Pembrokeshire.

The event is sponsored by Valero, Folly Farm, and Pure West Radio, and will also see the presentation of three special accolades — the School Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Chairman’s Special Achievement Award.

The awards recognise those who have excelled in sport over the past year or dedicated their time to coaching, organising, and supporting grassroots sport across the county.
