Councillor calls for compulsory purchase
A COUNCILLOR has once again called for the council to buy land which will enable work on a footpath in Haverfordwest.
Cllr Thomas Tudor said: “As the Local County Councillor for the Castle Ward, I call on Pembrokeshire County Council to compulsory purchase the land that is required to carry out the long awaited works for a foot way/pedestrian link from Castle Lake Car Park to Castle Square.
“Design for this scheme has already been prepared quite some time ago.”
Over many years, Cllr Tudor has engaged with many officers from Pembrokeshire County Council who have stated their aspirations of a foot way link between Castle Square and Castle Lake car park.
As the local County Councillor, Cllr Tudor has always supported this link because he says it would enhance this unattractive area of the town and of course improve the existing pedestrian access to the castle, something he thinks everyone should support and welcome.
Discussions have also been held with the owners of the land but it is understood that the negotiations have broken down and that a Compulsory Purchase Order would be necessary.
A report that went to Cabinet on May 23, 2011, gave the following recommendation: “That the Director of Development be authorised to take all necessary steps to secure the making, confirmation and implementation of a Compulsory Purchase Order under the provisions of Section 226 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and, if appropriate, Section 13 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 in respect of land identified on the plan, including the publication and service of all notices and the presentation of the Councils case at any public inquiry.”
Cllr Tudor said: “Five years after that report to the Cabinet, we are still talking about this link way but with no progress on the issue.
“My identical NOM on this subject was rejected by Cabinet with the Cabinet Member Cllr Keith Lewis stating at the last Full Council Meeting (May 12) that with hindsight he would have wished that my NOM had gone through. Well, here is another opportunity for my NOM to be accepted by the Cabinet.”

Tigers second division Cup Champions
In a thrilling Pembrokeshire Division Two Cup final under the floodlights of Bridge Meadow Stadium, fans witnessed an epic battle between Monkton Swifts reserves and Johnston. Despite Monkton Swifts reserves being touted as favorites, Johnston proved their mettle from the outset.
The game kicked off with a burst of energy as Johnston’s center half, Craig Bendall, seized an early opportunity to put his team ahead just ten minutes into the match. However, Monkton Swifts’ prolific Scotsman, Davis, swiftly responded with an equalizer, showcasing the resilience of the favourites.
The momentum shifted again when the dynamic duo of Alfie and Scott Crawford of Johnston orchestrated a beautifully executed goal, putting Johnston back in the lead at 2-1.
As the game progressed, Monkton Swifts brought in reinforcements, including Ben Steele, to regain control. Their efforts paid off when Jordan Kilby leveled the score at 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining.
But the Crawfords had other plans. Combining once more, Scott provided the assist for Alfie, who coolly finished to put Johnston ahead once again.
With time running out, Monkton Swifts launched a relentless onslaught in search of an equalizer. However, Johnston’s defense held firm, defying the odds to clinch the Division Two Cup title in a memorable victory.
