Another successful Llangwm Festival

THIS YEAR’S Llangwm’s Festival Fortnight was another huge success, with plenty of scarecrows, village events and carnival fun.
The medieval-themed carnival was fantastically well-attended, despite the rain, and a testament to the great community spirit in Llangwm and the surrounding areas.
Music from the Jumping Fleas, Rosey Cale, and Ragsy at the Cottage Inn proved a hit, and a packed out comedy night at the Village Hall starring Phil Evans and friends went down a storm.
Speaking after the event, Rosey Cale said on Facebook: “The gig was a massive surprise to me. Despite the awful rain , the sense of community in this village was incredible. Such a brilliant turn out!
“Not only that, but to have people singing along to my own songs as well as covers was something I could have only wished for.
“Thank you to everyone who came along to support and thank you for having me Llangwm Festival. It was a pleasure to perform for you all and be a part of.”
Phil Evans also spoke of his experience , saying: “This was the sixth time I had been invited back to perform a comedy evening in this beautiful part of Wales, in a village community where everyone knows each other and continues to pull together for the benefit of the community as a whole.
“It was like stepping back in time to the way that towns and villages used to engage with each other many years ago.
“The age range was from 16 to 80 and, luckily for us as performers, we were able to tickle the funny bones of every generation and our efforts were truly appreciated.
“The community spirit in many parts of the country is not always as good as we witnessed last weekend , but so much can be gained by a handful of determined people pulling together for the benefit of all to make a difference in the community, thereby setting an example for future generations.
“We are writing the Christmas show now in readiness for special venues such as Llangwm.”
The Carnival King and Queen were Kieran Sinclair and Caitlin Breen, respectively.
The Queen ‘ s Attendant was Roxy Evans and they all looked amazing and did a fantastic job.
The Best in Show at Llangwm Carnival 2016 was Jasper and Benjamin and a big thank you to Green acres for putting on the show.
Other events included a history walk around the village with Graham Stephens, a popular Songs of Praise evening at Galilee Chapel, cream teas and other refreshments in the Methodist Chapel, and much more.
The medieval-themed scarecrow competition inspired many incredible creations and the winner was ‘The Good Night ‘, which was on display at Port Lion.

Motorbike thefts linked to Facebook Marketplace spark police warning
POLICE have issued a warning to motorbike sellers after a spate of thefts linked to Facebook Marketplace across Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that five motorbikes and one electric bike were reported stolen between Tuesday (Feb 4) and Tuesday (Feb 18), with offences typically occurring late at night or during the early hours of the morning.
Officers say suspects have been contacting sellers who advertised motorcycles online, posing as genuine buyers in order to obtain home addresses for viewings. Shortly after these details were shared, the bikes were stolen.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incidents and have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Police are now urging anyone selling a motorbike online to take extra precautions.
A spokesperson said: “We are advising sellers to choose a public location for any viewing or exchange, avoid engaging with suspicious accounts that appear newly created or incomplete, and always use secure payment methods.”
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police, either online or by calling 101.

Young fundraisers saddle up for charity bike ride to Disneyland dream
THREE local girls are preparing to take on a sponsored cycle along the Brunel Trail as they continue raising money for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Disneyland Paris with their dance school.
Saskia, Elise and Nyla have already won support from the community through previous fundraising efforts, and are now hoping their latest challenge will help them reach their target.
The trio will be cycling the popular Brunel Trail route, putting in both effort and determination to move closer to their goal of travelling to France with their dance group.
Organiser Kelsy Merritt said the girls have been working hard to raise funds and are grateful for the encouragement they have received so far.
She said: “They’ve been amazing with their fundraising and are really excited about this next challenge. Every bit of support makes a huge difference and helps them get closer to their dream.”
Community backing has played a key role in the campaign so far, with friends, family and local supporters helping through donations and encouragement.
Those wishing to support Saskia, Elise and Nyla can do so by sponsoring their cycle or sharing details of the fundraiser to help spread the word.

Man who threatened to kill Herald editor given suspended prison sentence
A PEMBROKESHIRE man who sent a message threatening to kill Pembrokeshire Herald editor Tom Sinclair has been given a suspended prison sentence by magistrates.
Anthony Jones, aged 34, of Castle Quarry, Long Mains, Monkton, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Monday (Feb 23) for sentencing after being found guilty of two offences following a trial earlier this month.
The court heard that on February 24, 2025, Jones sent a communication conveying a threat of death or serious harm, contrary to the Online Safety Act 2023. Magistrates were told he intended, or was reckless as to whether, the recipient would fear the threat would be carried out.
Jones was also convicted of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress following an incident on April 8, 2025, in Pembroke involving a police officer.
Magistrates imposed a total custodial sentence of 26 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, for the threats against Mr Sinclair. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to the victim, £640 prosecution costs, and a £154 surcharge.
For the racially aggravated harassment offence, Jones received a separate 12-week prison sentence, also suspended for 12 months, to run concurrently, together with £200 compensation.
The court was told the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, with magistrates noting the defendant had shown a “flagrant disregard for people” and had targeted the victim with serious threats.
A victim personal statement from Mr Sinclair was read to the court by the prosecutor.
The custodial sentences were suspended after the court heard Jones had not offended for some time, was employed, had children, and was assessed by probation as not presenting a high risk of harm or reoffending.
