Another successful Llangwm Festival

THIS YEAR’S Llangwm’s Festival Fortnight was another huge success, with plenty of scarecrows, village events and carnival fun.
The medieval-themed carnival was fantastically well-attended, despite the rain, and a testament to the great community spirit in Llangwm and the surrounding areas.
Music from the Jumping Fleas, Rosey Cale, and Ragsy at the Cottage Inn proved a hit, and a packed out comedy night at the Village Hall starring Phil Evans and friends went down a storm.
Speaking after the event, Rosey Cale said on Facebook: “The gig was a massive surprise to me. Despite the awful rain , the sense of community in this village was incredible. Such a brilliant turn out!
“Not only that, but to have people singing along to my own songs as well as covers was something I could have only wished for.
“Thank you to everyone who came along to support and thank you for having me Llangwm Festival. It was a pleasure to perform for you all and be a part of.”
Phil Evans also spoke of his experience , saying: “This was the sixth time I had been invited back to perform a comedy evening in this beautiful part of Wales, in a village community where everyone knows each other and continues to pull together for the benefit of the community as a whole.
“It was like stepping back in time to the way that towns and villages used to engage with each other many years ago.
“The age range was from 16 to 80 and, luckily for us as performers, we were able to tickle the funny bones of every generation and our efforts were truly appreciated.
“The community spirit in many parts of the country is not always as good as we witnessed last weekend , but so much can be gained by a handful of determined people pulling together for the benefit of all to make a difference in the community, thereby setting an example for future generations.
“We are writing the Christmas show now in readiness for special venues such as Llangwm.”
The Carnival King and Queen were Kieran Sinclair and Caitlin Breen, respectively.
The Queen ‘ s Attendant was Roxy Evans and they all looked amazing and did a fantastic job.
The Best in Show at Llangwm Carnival 2016 was Jasper and Benjamin and a big thank you to Green acres for putting on the show.
Other events included a history walk around the village with Graham Stephens, a popular Songs of Praise evening at Galilee Chapel, cream teas and other refreshments in the Methodist Chapel, and much more.
The medieval-themed scarecrow competition inspired many incredible creations and the winner was ‘The Good Night ‘, which was on display at Port Lion.

Castlemartin man back before magistrates over multiple alleged assaults
Defendant remanded on conditional bail ahead of further hearing
A CASTLEMARTIN man has appeared repeatedly before magistrates this month over a string A 40-year-old man from Castlemartin has made repeated appearances before magistrates this month in connection with a series of serious alleged offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), intentional non-fatal strangulation, common assault, and criminal damage.
Anthony Alcock, of Pwll Street, Castlemartin, is facing six linked charges stemming from incidents said to have occurred earlier this year. These appear to relate to the same complainant in what is understood to be a single ongoing domestic abuse prosecution.
During recent administrative hearings at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court, Alcock did not enter pleas while matters of bail and case management were addressed.
Charges Include:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Intentional non-fatal strangulation
- Common assault on a woman
- Criminal damage in a domestic context
- Additional assault allegations involving the same complainant
- Breach of bail conditions
Alcock was initially granted conditional bail but was subsequently brought before the court on two occasions for alleged breaches. On those instances, magistrates remanded him in custody ahead of further hearings. He was later re-granted conditional bail, subject to strict conditions such as no contact with the complainant and exclusion from specified locations.
Magistrates have now declined jurisdiction, ruling that the case—particularly the more serious charges involving non-fatal strangulation—is too grave for summary trial. It has been committed to Swansea Crown Court for plea, trial, or sentencing.
No detailed evidence has been presented in open court at this preliminary stage. Alcock remains on conditional bail pending his next appearance at the Crown Court.
