Pryce has perfect rally test
THE SMILE on Osian Pryce’s face says it all. He’s tuned himself in to the Ford Fiesta R5 he will be driving on this week’s Wales Rally GB after just 30 miles of running in Alwen Forest. He’s ready to go now. But he’s still got three days to wait before Thursday night’s ceremonial start in Colwyn Bay. Pryce and co-driver Dale Furniss spent today fine-tuning the set-up of the Ford Fiesta R5 they will use to contest Britain’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship this week.
Despite never having driven a four-wheel drive rally car in anger before, the 21-year-old came out of the car comfortable, confident and blown away by the total traction on offer from a state-of-the-art rally car built by two-time world champions M-Sport. Today was all about the test. Tomorrow Machynlleth’s finest and fastest will have another test in store, as he fields some tricky questions… Osian said: “I had an idea of what to expect from this car and the reality lived up to and beyond those expectations – it was awesome! I hadn’t driven the car before today, not even turned a wheel in it.
On the road along to the stage it felt nice, but once we got into the test road, it was fantastic. I felt at home straight away. After three runs, I came back to service and CA1 Sport softened off the rear suspension, just to give us some more grip at the back of the car. We then softened the front as well to give us some more grip off the line, but that was it. Honestly, after around 30 miles of driving, I felt comfortable and completely at home in the car. I love it and I want the rally to start now! The test road was really good. We were just down the road from where some of the stages will be running during the event, so it couldn’t get more representative. Today’s been the perfect day and the aim is to continue this run into the event itself. My sponsors have given me this opportunity and I’m not going to waste it this week.”

Promotion, relegation and everything in between.
As we come to the end of the 2023-2024 season it’s time to look at the winners and losers so to speak as most promotion and relegation battles are now all sewn up.
We begin at the very top where Goodwick United have blown away the first division to become deserved champions elect. At the opposite end of the table Fishguard Sports struggled all season and we comfortably relegated, going down with them are Neyland who’s relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago. Neither team were cut adrift and battled right until the end which is credit to both outfits, sometimes relegation can act as a spring broad and both clubs will be hoping this is the case.
Monkton Swifts reserves were the outstanding team in the second division and were a cut above the rest on their journey to becoming league champions on 56 points with an impressive plus 61 goal difference. As Monkton can’t be promoted due to their first team being in the first division it allowed both Herbrandston and St Ishmaels to be promoted. Herbrandston finished in third on 40 points, whilst the Mice just beat them to second place ending up on 42 points. Both clubs will now use the summer to prepare for the step up that awaits.
At the opposite end of the division, Cosheston never really got going and after their points deduction ended on a lowly 6 points which is never going to be enough to avoid relegation. The second relegation place was much closer with St Clears, Carew reserves and Broad Haven all being in a dog fight for the majority of the season. Broad Haven showed good fight and character which steered them clear of trouble while Carew found form at a key time, which means St Clears will play their football in the third division next season.
