Scam warning as fraudulent callers claim to be from council
PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL’S Trading Standards officers are calling for residents of Fishguard and Goodwick to remain vigilant regarding suspicious phone calls claiming to be from either the town or county council.
In some instances the caller has stated that the reason for the call is concerning an insurance claim for an accident.
Councillor Huw George, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services said: “If you, or a member of your household, have not even had an accident then it is clearly a bogus call. If you have an ongoing insurance claim, contact your insurance company direct to verify a suspicious insurance call.”
The authority reminds residents not to provide any details to supposed callers from the Council unless first carrying out a check to verify that the call is genuine. To do this, ask the caller for their name and job title, put the phone down and after a few minutes telephone the Council switchboard on 01437 764551 and ask to be put through to the person.
The council highlight that residents and businesses can register for free with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) which would make it unlawful for unsolicited telesales calls which originate in the UK to phone the registered number. It is worth bearing in mind, however, that Ofcom’s TPS cannot prevent calls from overseas, market research calls or fraudulent calls.
To register online with the TPS, log onto: www.tpsonline.org.uk or phone: 0845 070 0707.
If you are already registered with the TPS and receive a telesales call or have previously told a business not to contact you again but they ignore your request, you can report it to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on: 0303 123 1113.
If you wish to report a suspicious or nuisance call or to find out more about your consumer rights, contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service helpline on 0345 4040506 or 0345 4040505 to speak to a Welsh speaking advisor.

Community gathers to remember Corrina Baker
Lanterns and balloons released in emotional acts of remembrance
FAMILY, friends and members of the local community came together to remember Corrina Baker at a series of moving events held across west Wales this week.
Corrina’s funeral took place on Monday (Dec 15), a month after her death, with a public service held at St Mary’s Church. Mourners lined the route as her coffin was carried on its final journey in an elegant horse-drawn carriage, before a private cremation later took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium in Narberth.

Later that evening, shortly after 6:00pm, friends and relatives gathered at the Quayside in Cardigan for the first of two acts of remembrance to celebrate her life. Lanterns were lit and released into the night sky above the town as some of Corrina’s favourite songs were played.

On Tuesday afternoon (Dec 16), a second tribute was held near the location where Corrina was found. Twenty-one pink balloons — one for each year of her life — were released into a clear blue sky, each carrying personal messages in her memory.
Floral tributes continue to be laid at the Netpool, while a GoFundMe appeal set up in Corrina’s memory has raised more than £2,300. She has been described by those who knew her as “funny and bright”.
Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Baker’s death is ongoing. A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

These people are evil ,they prey on the vunerable and many elderly are frightened to get such a call. One lady rang the Town Clerk ,after receiving such a call and said she was intending leaving the phone off the hook . Plainly that could be a dangerous thing to do but she was very distressed. Please just check on your neighbours and relatives and reassure them that if they are called by never giving out personal information they are perfectly safe.
