NEYLAND eased to victory over Pennar Robins on Saturday as they ran out 9-1 winners.

The home side made a quick start to the match as the Robins were caught napping in defence and scored with only nine seconds on the clock.

Neyland kicked off with Justin Harding playing the ball to Henry Durrant who made a driving run forward and hit a shot from 16 yards which went in off the post.

After 15 minutes, a defensive header fell to Wayne Parry six yards out and his shot beat the keeper at the near post.

Seven minutes later the Nomads won a corner after a good run from Joe Charlton and from the resulting set piece sent in by Henry Durrant, Charlton headed in unchallenged from six yards.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors as a Pennar player was sent off for two yellow cards, both of which were for dissent.

Soon after Neyland made it 4-0 when Wayne Parry tapped the ball in from close range after Nathan Banner’s header rebounded off the post.

Shortly before half time Neyland scored their fifth when Andrew Kemp beat the defender and chipped the ball into the box for Henry Durrant who slid in to knock the ball past the Pennar keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half Wayne Parry completed his hat-trick with a well struck shot from 20 yards out which found the bottom corner of the net.

Despite being down to ten men the visitors still battled away and grabbed a consolation with twenty minutes to go when Patrick Mcdonagh headed the ball in at the back post from a corner.

However straight from the restart Joe Charlton crossed into the box from the right and Henry Durrant took the ball down and curled it into the top corner to complete his hat trick.

Durrant was replaced by Phil Bevan with twelve minutes left and was involved immediately as he headed in from Sean Hannon’s free kick with his 1st touch of the ball.

With seven minutes to go Andrew Smith completed the Neyland scoring after Scott Jones’s shot was held up by the mud and Smith coolly rounded the keeper to make it 9-1.

There were no further goals in the game and Neyland’s big win means they are now just one point off the top three teams in the league.

Adams, Williams, and Jenkins return

WALES head coach Warren Gatland has named his team for the opening match of the 2025 Guinness Six Nations against France at the Stade de France, Paris, on Friday (Jan 31). The game kicks off at 8:15pm GMT and will be broadcast live on ITV and S4C.

Josh Adams, Liam Williams, and Dafydd Jenkins return to the starting XV, with Adams on the wing, Williams at fullback, and Jenkins in the second row.

Jac Morgan leads the side

Captain Jac Morgan starts at openside flanker, joining James Botham at blindside and Aaron Wainwright at No. 8 in the back row. Will Rowlands partners Jenkins in the second row.

In the front row, Evan Lloyd earns his first Test start at hooker, while Henry Thomas is named at tighthead prop for his first start and his first Wales appearance since the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Gareth Thomas starts at loosehead.

Ben Thomas makes Six Nations debut

Tomos Williams starts at scrum-half, with Ben Thomas making his Six Nations debut at fly-half. Owen Watkin and Nick Tompkins form the midfield pairing, while Tom Rogers is named on the wing alongside Adams.

Among the replacements, Nicky Smith is set to win his 50th cap, while fly-half Dan Edwards could make his senior Wales debut. Freddie Thomas and Blair Murray are in line for their first Six Nations appearances, having made their senior international debuts in the Autumn Nations Series.

Fun free sport sessions for kids in Fishguard

YOUNGSTERS can discover new sports to love at a free multi-sports session starting next week.

The sessions for children aged 5-8 will be held every Monday in term time between 4.15pm-5pm at Fishguard Leisure Centre.

The first session is this Monday, February 3rd.

Delivered by Sport Pembrokeshire Active Young People officers and assisted by

Young Ambassadors from Ysgol Bro Gwaun, the event is an opportunity to try fun activities, new sports and develop fundamental movement skills.
