Man to be sentenced for multiple child rape offences
A CARMARTHENSHIRE man will be sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Monday (January 5) after pleading guilty to multiple serious sexual offences involving children.
David Prothero, aged 39, from Tumble, is due to appear before a Crown Court judge for sentencing
The victims in the case are children who are legally entitled to lifelong anonymity.
Abuse disclosed to police
The court previously heard that allegations of sexual abuse were disclosed in early 2025, relating to offences said to have taken place from February 2025 onwards.
The offending included rape and other serious sexual acts, as well as sexual touching. The abuse was later reported to police, triggering an immediate investigation.
Officers arrested Prothero on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was subsequently charged and remanded into custody.
Further allegations uncovered
Following his arrest, police worked alongside social services, during which additional allegations of assault and child neglect were identified.
On Friday, December 5, Prothero appeared at Swansea Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to the following offences:
- Two counts of rape of a female aged 13
- Four counts of sexual activity with a female aged 13–17
- Four counts of sexual assault on a female
- One count of ill-treatment or neglect of a child
- One count of assault
Sentencing due Monday
Sentencing will take place on Monday, with police expected to issue a statement following the hearing.
The case has been described as highlighting the courage of the victims in coming forward to report serious sexual abuse.

Whitland woman accused of arson sent to Crown Court
A WHITLAND woman has been sent to the Crown Court after admitting an arson offence.
Sara Dix, aged 37, of Bryngwenllian, Whitland, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (Dec 31)charged with arson.
The court heard that Dix was accused of committing arson on March 31, 2025, contrary to sections 1(1), 1(3) and 4 of the Criminal Damage Act.
Dix indicated a guilty plea to the offence when the matter was put to her at the magistrates’ court.
Due to the seriousness of the charge, magistrates ruled that they did not have sufficient sentencing powers and committed the case to the Crown Court for sentence.
No reporting restrictions were imposed.
Dix will now appear before the Crown Court on a date to be fixed, where sentencing will be considered.

Pembrokeshire man faces multiple assault, harassment and vehicle offences
A PEMBROKE DOCK man has appeared before magistrates facing a string of assault, harassment and vehicle-related offences committed over several months.
Tony Brundrett, aged 21, of no fixed abode, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court in connection with nine separate offences dating between May and December 2025.
The court heard that Brundrett admitted a number of violent and non-violent offences, including three counts of assault by beating, harassment without violence, criminal damage, and a series of motoring offences.
Assault and harassment offences
Brundrett pleaded guilty to assault by beating committed on May 21, October 30, and December 9 last year.
He also admitted harassment without violence, contrary to the Protection from Harassment Act, relating to behaviour on September 17.
In addition, the court was told that Brundrett carried out criminal damage to property valued under £500 on November 16.
Vehicle-related offences
Magistrates also dealt with a cluster of motoring offences arising from incidents on November 16, including:
- Aggravated vehicle taking as the initial taker
- Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
- Using a motor vehicle without insurance
The offences were considered together due to their close timing and circumstances.
Court outcome
The court imposed a suspended sentence order in relation to several of the offences, reflecting the seriousness of the violence involved while stopping short of immediate custody.
Brundrett was also ordered to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, with the court taking into account his guilty pleas when determining sentence.
All matters were dealt with at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (Dec 31).

Pembroke man charged with strangling woman
COURT HEARING IN HAVERFORDWEST
A PEMBROKE man has appeared in court charged with intentionally strangling a woman.
Matthew Sawyer, aged 34, of Laugharne Close, Pembroke, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court accused of one count of intentional strangulation.
The court heard allegations that Sawyer strangled a woman in Neyland on May 3.
Magistrates ruled that the case was too serious to be dealt with at summary level and sent it to Swansea Crown Court.
Sawyer is due to appear there to enter a plea on January 2. He was granted bail until that date.
